Our speaker on Thursday May 22nd was Christine Wootton from the City of London's Neighbourhood, Children and Fire Services speaking on the club's community project, which is contributing funds for the purchase and installation of new playground equipment in the park next to Emily Carr Elementary School.  The equipment selected for this park is shown in the image above.  The powerpoint presentation can be found to the left in the download section of the homepage.

Kevin Webb presented our club's contribution of $15,000 for this project to Christine at the conclusion of the presentation.  The club contributed $10,000 from its reserve fund and was successful in getting approval for a $5,000 City of London Sparks "Neighbourhood Improvement".

The playground equipment will be installed between June 9th and  June 19th (allowing for inclement weather) with the community celebration at the park to commemorate the new equipment scheduled for the last day of school, Thursday June 26th between 3:30pm and 5:00pm.  This also happens to be the last Rotary meeting day for the 2013/14 Rotary year.  Christine spoke of Rotary being recognized for its generous contribution towards this project.  She indicated the City of London will provide up to $500 towards a traditional plaque or an etched boulder (see examples below).
