Good Community Turnout to Hear Mayor Matt Brown Speak
We had 46 members and guests attend our special community breakfast meeting to hear Mayor Matt Brown speak about the exciting changes coming to London, including the new rapid transit plan and a renewed focus on making London a culturally dynamic place to live.  He spoke about the importance of the local service groups such as Rotary helping make our communities a more caring and friendly place for everyone.

Mayor Brown spoke for about 15 minutes and then opened up the floor for questions.  There were several excellent questions from a well-informed and engaged audience.  The Mayor answered these questions while occasionally admitting he didn't have an immediate answer and requesting the questioner follow up with his office.

Our club's focus for this meeting was to raise awareness about Polio and how close we are to this disease's eradication with only 2 countries left in the world reporting endemic Wild Polio virus.  In 1985 there were still 126 countries reporting Polio outbreaks.  All guests received an "End Polio Now" pin to raise awareness of this disease, eradicated so long ago in Canada.  There was also information about Polio on each table.  All proceeds raised from this breakfast will be donated to the Rotary Global Polio Eradication fund.

West Haven Golf & Country club again did a wonderful job hosting the event with the main room decked out in Fall colours and providing a wonderful breakfast.  Beyond the shadow of doubt for this webmaster our club has the best venue for any service organization in London.  Please click on the "Read more" button to see more pictures from this community event.
