Our 12th Annual Charity Golf Tournament....
A Dark Sky Threatens......

And Our First Rainout!!
The London Hyde Park Rotary club held its 12 th Annual Golf Tournament at Thames Valley Golf Course on Thursday August 11th. This day is a fundraiser for Wellspring London and region, an organization that provides supportive care to patients with cancer and their families. It is also a fundraiser for local (eg. Chidren's Hospital, Eating Disorders  Foundation of Canada, Limberlost Chaplaincy) and international (Polio Plus, support to medical missions to the Dominican Republic and Mexico) projects. This year we had 59 really keen golfers who were ready to play, only to be denied by mother nature.
...then the rain drowns the golf course
Our scheduled tournament was rained out, and several of us sat around in the clubhouse watching finishing golfers, who were not part of our tournament) trying to putt through large puddles of water on the 18th green.  Eventually after a 2 hour rain delay we were allowed out onto the smaller 9 hole Hickory Course where we could take out our frustration on those little white spheres.

After dinner the gifts that were intended as prizes for the winning teams were instead used as draw prizes. As a result most of the people at dinner went home with something nice, possibly a Tim's gift certificate or a bottle of wine. Next year we will probably do away with prizes and just have draws, so that most people will go home with something.

Many businesses in Hyde Park and London either sponsored a hole or donated a gift for the silent auction. With their support we will have made approximately $7,000 to be distributed between Wellspring and our other local and international projects. We hope to get more businesses in Hyde Park to become involved in our tournament in 2017, either through financial support as a hole or corporate sponsor, donating an item for our silent auction or entering a team to play in the tournament. The last event in the evening was a draw for a lovely wrapped gift basket, valued at $70, which was donated by Unger's Markets.
Goliger's Travel was one of several sponsors for our tournament
