As a newly chartered Rotary club, London-Hyde Park Rotarians dedicated many hours, under the leadership of chair Frank Sampson and later Paul Traher, in preparing for the celebratory dinner to mark the charter status on Friday, November 14, 1997 at the Greek Canadian Club on Sarnia Road.
Prior to the charter festivities, three new Rotarians would join with charter members to be inducted and warmly welcomed into the London-Hyde Park Rotary family.

The true feeling of being welcomed into the family of Rotary came on Friday, November 14, 1997, when a celebration was held with vice president Rotary International, Dr. Bob Scott, as the keynote speaker. Rotarians from near and far gathered at the Greek Canadian Community Centre on Sarnia Road, helped us celebrate, and as tradition has it, provided London-Hyde Park with many of the essentials necessary to conduct Rotary badges, bell, gavel, banners, podium, flags, Rotary grace stand.

Past District Governor John Eberhard (1993-94) and Assistant Governor Jim Thomas share a humorous moment with Charter president Ken Alexander Jr.

Who can forget the devastating ice storms that hit eastern Ontario and Quebec? London-Hyde Park Rotarians personally contributed to the relief efforts organized by London Rotary clubs.

During our first year, with little money to fund worthy community organizations, London-Hyde Park Rotarians concentrated on providing 'helping hands' at the London & District Food Bank once a month. Much needed jars of baby food were donated. Club members gathered grocery slips to convert to cash to purchase additional items deemed in short supply.
London-Hyde Park Rotarians Dr Phil Hayman and Barbara Robins create boxes in which to place donated canned goods, while volunteering at the London & District Food Bank.
