For those of you asking, Who is Doug Varty?.........

Who is Doug Varty? (http://www.wish-you-were-here-tribute.ca/theband.php#dougvarty)

Doug Varty is an accomplished Canadian musician, songwriter, and yoga instructor. He has seen much success with his own original music as the front man of The Doug Varty Band.
For Doug, it’s always been music. His dad played the piano, and he claims that he responded to it in the womb. Before he was born, his mother had a reading from a fortune teller, who said that her son’s whole life would be music. As quoted from Doug, “She couldn’t have been more right.” Doug had his own turntable and records as a baby, and started playing “music” as soon as he could whack the living room piano.

Once Doug heard the Rolling Stones, it was the beginning of a lifelong love affair with rock’n’roll and electric guitars. He started his first band at 13, left home to join his first recording band at 17, and he’s still standing on solid rock today. Doug met and played with a lot of cool people on the way, like Bob Seger, Johnny and Edgar Winter, Roy Orbison, Del Shannon, John Lee Hooker, Jeff Healy, Colin Linden, and Colin James.

Doug tried to stop playing and, as he puts it, “get a life” now and then along the way, but for him there’s no biz like the “puttin’ on a show” biz.
When Doug’s not playing for an audience, he’s teaching others how to play. He sees about 30 students a week for private lessons in vocal, guitar and harmonica. Doug says that to his happy surprise teaching gives him every bit the buzz that rocking at centre stage does.

Doug’s other love is Yoga. He is a certified yoga instructor and attends retreats throughout North America with his wife, who is also a qualified instructor.
