Playground Celebration Huge Success

The Playground Celebration on Thursday June 26th. was a huge success in large part due to the support of Christine Wootton and Julie Michaud of the City of London.  They ensured we had tents, a sound system, picnic tables, and most importantly the barbecue.  The city also provided the cup cakes.  The playground area was very festive.  While it threatened rain the clouds passed over and dumped rain downtown while we were left with beautiful sunshine for the entire event.   Steve and Doug ably assisted by Barb and AG Diane (pictured above) barbecued and handed out 216 hotdogs in about 30 minutes.  It was impressive to behold!

What was most enjoyable was the number of kids having a wonderful time playing on their new playground equipment.  This made it all worthwhile.

Thank you to those members who came out to help. There must have been close to 300 people attending, including AG Diane Chantler who also helped handout hotdogs.  Out of 300 cupcakes contributed by the City of London there were only around a dozen left.  The 120 bottles of water seemed to evaporate and probably about ½ of the coffee donated by Tim Horton's was consumed.   Hendrikus and Kevin, along with Counselor Matt Brown, said a few words to the crowd (some of whom were actually listening) and then cut the ribbon to officially open the playground.
