Mayor Matt Brown and Ward 7 Councilor Josh Morgan pose with the Board of the Northwest London Resource Centre during the grand opening of their new location at Sherwood Forest Mall on March 28th.  The NWLRC was located across from the Sherwood Forest branch of the public library and desperately needed a larger facility to accommodate its expanding community programming.  Kevin attended the grand opening on behalf of the club and there were two Fanshawe Rotaractors present who were volunteering for this event.  Some of the programs provided by this community organization include:

Programs

1 Step Closer for Kidz

A project created by youth, the Northwest London Resource Centre is hosting this pilot project being offered to Wilfrid Jury Public School in 2013/14 school year. This program was created by young people with the goal to end social isolation in their neighoburhood. Donations are being accepted at the office Tues-Fri 9:30-11:30am – specifically focusing on support for grade 8 graduation attire, graduation photo sponsorship and end of the year class trip sponsorships. Please contact Miranda at youth@nwlrc.ca for more info.

Dynamic Dozen Flashmob Team

The Northwest London Resource Centre hosted the first Dynamic Dozen team in Northwest London in summer 2012 and are ecstatic to embrace it as a regular summer program. This team consists of 12 youth ages 15-18 years who are employed through Y.O.U.’s Summer Jobs for Youth Program. They are lead by a Choreographer and Peer Mentors who teach and lead them throughout the summer. If you are interested in having the flashmob attend one of your events, camps or functions over the summer, please contact Rachelle at rcoleman@nwlrc.ca Also, join us for our big launch at Coven Garden Market on July 12 @ noon!

Summer Snapshots

Through Y.O.U. and Summer Jobs for Youth, 4 youth 15-18 years of age were employed through the Resource Centre for the 2012 summer months to showcase our neighborhood by taking pictures and blogging about their findings! Check out www.neighbourgoodguide.ca and view our neighbourhoods little gems and encourage others to add their own little gems too!

Mural Project

Funded through the SPARKS! Neighbourhood Matching Fund and partnered with the London Arts Council, City of London Public Arts Department and Neighbourhood Watch – the 2013 summer welcomes the Summer Mural Project in the NW. With positions funded through Y.O.U’s Summer Jobs for Youth Program, the NWLRC will employ 6 youth to canvass the neighbourhood for resident input on what represents their neighbourhood, then work with a local artist to create a design and paint a large mural on the side of the Medway Community Centre (Arena). Check in throughout the summer to see updates on their progress and information about the unveiling of the mural and celebration!
